Whitefish is also known as the Pine River Reservoir. Located in the stunning Brainerd Lakes Area in Northern Minnesota, the Whitefish chain of lakes is made up of fourteen lakes (listed below). You’ll find fishing for all kinds of fish including Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Walleye, Crappie, Whitefish and Smallmouth Bass. You’ll also enjoy the beautiful scenery, resorts, and stunning lake homes.

The lakes were created in the 1880s when Congress authorized the US Army Corps of Engineers to build lake dams so that the Mississippi could be navigated below St Paul. The Whitefish Chain in particular was created in 1186 with the damming of the Pine River.

Visitors enjoy getting a great view of the lake while driving on the National Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway.  There’s plenty of vacation rentals, resorts, and villas along the shores, along with campgrounds at the Cross Lake recreation area.

And there’s plenty of other things to do at the lakes besides fishing. Boaters, water skiers, and swimmers are regular sites here. During the winter you can enjoy ice fishing, ice skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and cross country skiing.
