Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza Is Set For January 19th

If you are looking for something fun to do with the whole family this upcoming weekend the 23rd annual Brainerd Jaycees $150,000 Ice Fishing is set to take place January 19th from 12-3 p.m.  Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Department gave the OK last week to proceed with the event after measuring ice thickness. Last year’s event had to be postponed till February due to ice conditions.  The event is all volunteer run with all proceeds being donated to area charity events. Confidence Learning Center, an outdoor recreational facility and camp for people with developmental disabilities will be the primary benefactor.

Angie Nelson, marketing coordinator for this year’s Extravaganza, said “Our main concern as always is that everything is safe out there and with the approval from the Crow Wing County sheriff, it’s a great feeling.” The event will draw over 10,000 anglers who will be competing for one of 150 prizes that will be available valued at over $200,000.

The event will be similar to that in years past.  There is a wide variety of prizes available. First place winner of the event will win a brand new pickup truck. If you will be attending the event you are encouraged to use the free shuttles that are available at Brainerd International Raceway and at the old Nisswa Flea Market on Highway 371 North. Shuttles will begin operating at 8 a.m. and will run until the last contestant is off the ice.  More information and official updates can be found at www.icefishing.org.
