Brainerd Lakes to Host 2014 Governor’s Fishing Opener

This time next year Brainerd Lakes will have the honor of hosting the 67th Governor’s Fishing Opener. On May 8th thru the 11th 2014, the Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener event will be held at Gull Lake.

Each year the event is organized and ran by Explore Minnesota Tourism, the state’s tourism promotion office, and the hosting community. Brainerd Lakes Area Chamber will host the event, with Grand View Lodge serving as event headquarters next year.

“The Brainerd lakes area has a long tradition as a fishing destination, and now, it’s also well-known for great golfing, scenic bike trails, numerous resorts and more,” said John Edman, director of Explore Minnesota Tourism, in a news release. “The Governor’s Fishing Opener will put Brainerd lakes in the spotlight, with all it has to offer travelers.”

The Governor's Fishing Opener is a great way to boost tourism to the area, and has been a statewide tradition since 1948. Hosting of the event will provide Brainerd Lakes the opportunity to showcase all the wonderful things to do in the area from fishing to family friendly activities.
