Pequot Lakes Real EstateLocal historians have yet to agree on how Pequot Lakes got its name, but there's no debate that this city is a beautiful and great place to put down new roots. Locals and visitors alike are welcomed to Pequot Lakes by the famous fishing bobber of Paul Bunyan, which was once the town's water tower. Newcomers and vacationers are promptly introduced to the way small-town life is and all the great things that are offered by living in a small town. However, just because Pequot Lakes' population is under 2000, it doesn't mean that the locals don't know how to put together a good time. There is a variety of outdoor adventure offered to those who are around Pequot Lakes. Four seasons of fun are offered at each of Minnesota's pristine lakes. Land lovers can navigate the Paul Bunyan State Trail by hiking, biking or skating. The trail is a 100-mile paved trail winding through the heart of MN, going through six communities and by 21 lakes in the Whitefish Chain. The Paul Bunyan National Scenic Byway will provide a breathtaking view of the natural environment that MN has to offer. The Greater Lakes Area Performing Arts (GLAPA) group was founded in 1983 and was a welcomed addition to the community where arts and culture are very much alive today. GLAPA, which has an active and interested membership, has hosted visiting performers, touring theatre shows and various programs to the Pequot Lakes Community Theater. Like all the other wonderful small towns of Minnesota, Pequot Lakes has its own celebrations to offer. Annual activities include fall's "Taste of Pequot", where neighbors and friends gather in Trailside Park to sample the wares of local restaurants. Another is the unique Bean Hole Days celebration, where a special recipe of beans is used to cook the beans in the ground, and a local craft fair to enjoy at the same time. While the community of Pequot Lakes likes to remember where they've come from and honor their quaint community atmosphere, the town continues to grow and welcome new residents. This is evident in the building of a new elementary school, the continued diversification of industries in the downtown area and a 57-acre industrial park. Pequot Lakes is exactly the place you need if you are looking for a new home in a small-town community that embraces its uniqueness and past, but also prepares for the future.
